other man is one Wang, also an employs of the American
Presbyterian Mission in Canson. The five barrels of
cement containing revolvers vere addressed to him at
the chapel of the American Presbyterian Mission in
the City. He has also escaped to Hong Kong.
The discoveries made up to the present mo- mont indicate that Chinese Christians are implicated and that the City Chapel of the American Presbyterian
Mission was the centre of the movement in Canton
unpleasant circumstance which cannot but seriously

It is of course quite impossible to foresee
what may be the next move, but I am convinced that the authorities are quite unable to suppress a rising,
and that the Viceroy does not realise the gravity of
the situation. He is being deceived by his subordin-
ates who are afraid of being held responsible for the dangerous state of affairs and any faithful reports
made to him are brushed aside as mere idle rumours.
H.M.S. "Pigmy" is anchored off the settlement
and foreigners in Canton are in no danger.
